BAN ARTIFICIAL TRANS FATS IN OUR FOOD - THE SILENT KILLER

Artificial Trans Fats increase your bad cholesterol but they also decrease your good cholesterol. Studies have found trans fats contribute to heart disease, obesity, cancer and infertility. Our health system is overloaded, obesity rates have doubled in the last 20 years and infertility is on the rise.
Trans Fats are created from a chemical process with the aim to thicken food, increase the shelf life and improve the texture of baked goods and other food products. Now trans fats are in everything from vegetable oils, to baked products, to almond meal and flour - the list goes on and on. Trans fats are often hidden in our food and are in products we least expect (as depicted above), therefore people are being denied the right to choose and denied our right to be fully informed.
In 2003, Denmark effectively banned trans-fat from foods, charting a course for an 80% reduction of trans-fat in all foods. In 2008, California became the first state to ban restaurant chains from usingtrans-fats for cooking or frying. In June of this year, the U.S took action that will significantly reduce the use of Partially Hydrogenated Oils (PHOs), the major source of artificial trans fats in the food supply.
Australia needs to ban trans fats. Food manufacturers have saturated our food supply with a deadly substance that is slowly killing us. Now we have the knowledge and facts about this silent killer we need to act on it for the sake of our families and the next generation.
